The goals for this remodel project were to bring in more natural light, make a functional beautiful kitchen that is more open to surrounding spaces, and update the 1970s entryway and living room.
The result is an open and light space, with larger windows and views across the dining room to the front yard. The updated living room has a large sliding door to the backyard, new fireplace surround, lighting, and decorative wood paneled walls which begin at the entryway. A new mud room makes for a nice transition from the garage to the kitchen.
This North Austin home had a great floor plan but the existing kitchen was too cramped and separate from the rest of the living spaces. The new floor plan opens the kitchen up to the dining room with a view across the front yard. The kitchen also gets a new entrance from the living room without leaving both spaces too open and undefined. A new mudroom/ laundry room is also planned for in the garage, off the kitchen.
